The Shippy Family

IMG_9452.JPG

Located in Colome, South Dakota, Shippy Cattle Company is not only a business but is home to the family behind it.  Frank bought the home place in 1934, farming until Chan assumed ownership in 1958.  Todd is now the third generation operator after returning home in 1988, having graduated from South Dakota State University.

Today, Todd’s son, Cole, has joined in the family tradition and has added the help of his wife, Lacey. The two of them have welcomed the fifth generation of Shippys  with the births of their son, Mason and daughters, Hazel and Clara.  Todd’s wife, Janette, is involved in feedlot duties as well.   Todd also has two daughters.  Rachel is a  graduate of Mount Marty College and currently is a teacher in Yankton.  Sarah earned a degree from the University of South Dakota and attended graduate school at the University of Nebraska. She works as an athletic trainer for Mount Marty College.  Both ladies assist the family on their visits back home.

Shippy Cattle Company has raised cattle for over 35 years, but started the custom cattle feeding division in 1998.  Since then, the feedlot has adapted and developed to accommodate the family changes and additions as well as the needs of the customers it serves.

The family, in addition to custom feeding cattle, enjoys maintaining a quality herd of Belted Galloway and commercial crossbred cattle.
